EXPERIENCE

Geophysicist, U.S. Geological Survey, Earthquake Hazards Team, since 1981. Research on earthquake stress-triggering, blind thrust faulting, earthquake deformation, seismic hazard assessment. Funding by NASA, FEMA, SCEC, US AID, PG&E and Swiss Re.

Editor, Journal of Geophysical Research—Solid Earth & Planets, for Geodesy and Tectonophysics, 1986-1989. Evaluated 250 manuscripts and presided over 12 Associate Editors.

Visiting Professor, Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris and Ecole Normale Supérieure, Autumn 1989; Spring 1993; and Spring-Summer 1999.

• Co-founder and co-chair of the Stanford-USGS Graduate Fellowship in the Earth Sciences. Sixteen Fellows have since been named since 1987, with their one-year stipend and tuition funded by alumni gifts. The Fellowship endowment has now reached $350,000.
