USGS Earthquake Web Sites Ordered Off The Air

This web site, along with all other USGS and Department of the Interior web sites, were unavailable from Thursday, December 6 to Sunday, December 9, 2001, as a result of a court order requiring that the Department of the Interior cut itself off from the Internet. The shutdown occurred on the order of U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth, who is presiding over a long-running lawsuit alleging mismanagement, involving internet security issues, by the federal government in the handling of trust funds for American Indians.
